Honda of the UK Manufacturing honoured with gratitude award from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) visited Honda of the UK Manufacturing this week to thank the automotive manufacturer for their support during a road traffic collision simulation earlier this year.

Mr Jun Nishimoto, Managing Director at Honda of the UK Manufacturing, welcomed Andy Hermiston, Acting Chief Fire Officer of GFRS, to the factory and provided him a tour of the manufacturing facility. The fire service official personally thanked Honda for their support and presented Nishimoto-san and Members of Honda’s Health, Safety and Environment team with a plaque and letter of gratitude, saying:

“We are grateful for the support Honda of the UK Manufacturing provided to help make a difference. Vehicle technology and construction is changing all the time and joint exercises like this provide a unique opportunity for crews to practice extrication and cutting techniques on the latest vehicles.

“The Honda team shared a number of really useful ideas that will help develop our ongoing learning. Our focus is always to prevent harm in the first place and we are seeing a steady decline in incidents through regular road safety campaigning. Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service look forward to working with Honda and our blue light partners to continue to share and develop our learning.”

During August’s scheduled shutdown, Honda provided a section of the test track at the Swindon-based factory to GFRS and other emergency services to recreate scenarios they attended in the past. Honda also provided prototype vehicles of the new 10th generation Civic to allow the fire service to test their equipment on the latest vehicles available on the market.

Jun Nishimoto, Managing Director at Honda of the UK Manufacturing, added:

“It was an honour to meet with officials from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service and continue to build our relationship. Honda is pleased to assist the emergency services with these activities. Our working partnership with Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service enables them to practice their skills in real-life scenarios, ensuring they are in the best position to support our community.”
